Swansea City boss Garry Monk insists he is trying to learn how to improve in his role although he knows the pressure is on this season.

The Swans, 9.50 to be relegated, handed Monk a full-time deal as boss at the Liberty Stadium in May after he impressed on an interim basis after the sacking of Michael Laudrup.

Monk, who has been at the club for over 10 years, helped keep the Welsh outfit in the Premier League last season and he is now looking to kick on this year.

The likes of Michu, Pablo Hernandez and Chico Flores have all left earlier in the summer, but Swansea did brilliantly well to beat Manchester United on the opening day of the season.

Monk’s side earned a 2-1 victory at Old Trafford but he has admitted that he needs to learn the ropes quickly before it is too late.

“Every day I am earning the right to be seen as a better manager. I want to earn the right to call myself a top manager. But I know this could be my only chance,” he told the Daily Mail.

“I know that as well as I get on with the board, they will not hesitate to do what is best for the club if we don’t perform.

“But if you manage by fear of that you’re done. You have to keep learning until you are a good manager – you have to use your time well. I am in this job and now I have to work as hard as I can to learn fast and make it a success.”
