Thiago Motta believes new signing Julian Draxler can help take Paris Saint-Germain to the next level during the second half of the season.

The German recently joined Les Parisiens from Wolfsburg and made a successful start to the new chapter in his career, coming off the bench to score on his debut in Saturday’s 7-0 Coupe de France win over Bastia.

Having dominated French football in recent years, PSG have struggled to find their rhythm so far this season, with them still adapting to new boss Unai Emery’s tactics.

This has left them sitting third in the table, five points adrift of leaders Nice, with Monaco second.

PSG are the current 1.57 favourites to win Ligue 1, with Monaco 4.33 and Nice priced at 5.50. Despite their woes, Emery’s side remain well in the hunt for all three domestic trophies, while they are also through to the last 16 of the Champions League where they are set to face Barcelona.

Draxler’s addition has only added further quality to their ranks and the World Cup winner will be hoping for a first start in Wednesday’s Coupe de la Ligue clash with Metz.

The 23-year-old already appears to have made a positive impact on the squad and Motta, who was also on the scoresheet on Saturday, believes the playmaker has the quality to help get them back to their previous levels.

“He has fit in well,” Motta said. “He is a very nice guy. He has joined a team with heightened ambitions.

“He is also naturally ambitious and wants to play in the biggest matches. I am sure he will help us raise our game.”
