West Bromwich Albion coach Tony Pulis has heaped praise on his players after they came back from behind to beat Bournemouth 2-1 on Saturday.

The Baggies were left shocked after just five minutes as Josh King scored a penalty following Allan Nyom’s foul on Ryan Fraser in the penalty area.

West Brom refused to panic and managed to secure all three points thanks to goals from defenders Craig Dawson and Gareth McAuley.

Goalkeeper Ben Foster was on hand to deny Lys Mousset and Tyrone Mings in injury-time at the end of the game and Pulis was quick to praise all of his team for their gutsy display.

“We responded with two good goals that we are really pleased with,” he told Sky Sports. “They showed great spirit.

“We showed that when we had to dig in and work hard off the ball, we do it. That’s what the players are.

“You try to get a team ethic and make sure they work hard together as a group and there are not many times this year when they’ve not done that.

We’ve lost games but they’ve always been pretty tight and together.” Saturday’s win extends West Brom’s unbeaten run to five matches in the Premier League and Pulis insists they can now stop looking over their shoulder after reaching 40 points.

He added: “We’ve got 40 points now so I think we’re okay. We don’t have to look over our shoulders.

“We now need to get the performance from the players every week, making sure we do perform and play football through the pitch.

We’ve played some fantastic stuff but we need to be more clinical in the final third.”
