Tottenham Hotspur keeper Hugo Lloris believes the club can only go up after suggesting Spurs would struggle to do worse than in their current campaign
Some would say the French international is being a bit harsh on the north London outfit’s achievements this season, as they currently in sixth place just above reigning Premier League champions Manchester United.
However the target before the start of the season, following a summer of heavy spending under previous manager Andre Villas-Boas, was to secure Champions League football for next term.
Having missed out on a place in the top four under caretaker Tim Sherwood, the season has been regarded as a disappointing one by Lloris, who was hoping to once again play in Europe’s premier competition.
He said: “We have to improve, we know this season that the top-four, top-five teams were better than us so we have to keep working and hope to be better next season. It will be difficult to do worse, especially against the top four or five teams.
“I mean, we conceded a lot of bad defeats. This season we had sometimes the feeling that we gave up. We can’t allow this kind of behaviour. We have to show more character.”
Lloris and Spurs will now be looking for a positive end to the Premier League campaign as they prepare for encounters with Stoke City, West Ham and Aston Villa.
Tottenham are 2.32 to win, 3.35 to draw and 2.94 to be beaten by the Potters when the two teams meet in the Premier League on Saturday at the Britannia Stadium.
