Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure insists plenty of people are hoping the club fails this season.

The Citizens are unbeaten in their last 11 matches and currently sit third in the Premier League table. Pep Guardiola’s men are 10 points behind league leaders Chelsea and although their title chances look slim, City are still in the FA Cup and the Champions League.

They beat Middlesbrough to reach the semi-finals of the FA Cup while they face Monaco in the second leg of their last-16 European tie on Wednesday.

City, 12.00 to win the Champions League, will take a 5-3 lead into the clash in Monaco and Toure is ready to silence onlookers who want the club to fail.

“When you’re a winner and when you want to achieve important things, you have to work hard,” he said. “Sometimes it’s difficult but you have to be positive because we know people are waiting for us to fail.

“What we have to do is try to keep going, working hard. It’s like that. We are playing very well at the moment and we have a team that plays mostly attractive games and sometimes the pundits are waiting to analyse.

“But, okay, it’s part of the game and in football now. Ten or 20 years ago it wasn’t the same but today we just have to do our job. We are playing well but in the end winning is the most important thing.”
