Wayne Rooney could sit out England’s Euro 2016 qualifier against Estonia on Friday after he was forced to miss training with the rest of the squad.

Rooney picked up a knock while playing for Manchester United in the 3-0 defeat against Arsenal on Sunday and was forced to sit out training on Monday and Tuesday.

The injury is not thought to be serious, but with qualification already in the bag, coach Roy Hodgson is unlikely to take any chances on him in England’s last qualifier at Wembley.

Whatever happens, Rooney will receive a golden boot from Sir Bobby Charlton after breaking the England goalscoring record after reaching 50 goals for his country.

Hodgson is under no pressure whatsoever and any players who are carrying knocks are likely to be left out, despite the fact over 75,000 fans are expected to pack into Wembley Stadium for the game.

Liverpool striker Danny Ings and Swansea midfielder Jonjo Shelvey have also sat out training for the last two days and have to also be considered doubts to face Estonia.

All three players could be held back for final qualifying game in Lithuania next week instead.

Hodgson has already lost Everton defender John Stones through injury, while Tottenham duo Kyle Walker and Andros Townsend have both been called up.

England are priced at 1.13 to beat Estonia, with the visitors 24.00 to pull off a shock, while the draw is 6.50.
