Wojciech Szczesny believes Roma can match Juventus in Serie A this season and is confident they can win silverware at both home and abroad.

The Polish goalkeeper is enjoying his second year on loan in the Eternal City from Arsenal and has been a key player in their recent run of six unbeaten in the Scudetto.

Their form has placed them four points adrift of leaders Juve, who are the current 1.14 favourites to win a sixth straight domestic crown. The Giallorossi are 8.00 to top the standings but despite losing arguably their best player to Bianconeri over the summer in Miralem Pjanic, appear a better side this season following the return of Luciano Spalletti to the dugout in January.

With Spalletti having the squad to rotate for both domestic and Europa League matters this term, Szczesny believes they are in good shape to win the club’s first trophy since the 57-year-old guided them to the Coppa Italia in 2008.

The 26-year-old concedes confidence is high within the camp and, although he admits they are the underdogs, he is in no doubt they have what it takes to catch the top dogs.

“Roma’s targets? The Scudetto, the Europa League and the Coppa Italia,” Szczesny said in an interview with Laczynaspilka. “Roma have ambition and tradition, as well as a good squad.

Juventus are favourites, but Roma are one of the teams who can dethrone them. “Everyone drops points in Serie A, even Juventus. I don’t think the Old Lady is that much better than Roma.”

Next up for Roma after the international break is a trip to Atalanta, a clash they are 1.91 to win, with the draw 3.50 and the improving La Dea 4.00.
