Wolfsburg midfielder Kevin De Bruyne says there has been “informal contact” with Manchester City over a proposed move back to England this summer.

The Belgium international was previously at Chelsea but moved to the Bundesliga in order to gain regular first-team football.

He has excelled at Wolfsburg this season prompting speculation that City are willing to offer him a return to English football.

De Bruyne says the Citizens will need to make their interest known to the German side before any deal can be discussed.

“We say to everybody – if they want to do something they have to go to Wolfsburg, not to me,” he said.

The 23-year-old says he is not allowing the speculation to bother him and he is content to wait and see what happens.

“I don’t have any stress about these things,” he added. “It will come this way and I know that there are a lot of rumours and the papers are writing a lot.”

Despite failing to win a regular place in Jose Mourinho’s team at Stamford Bridge, the Belgian ace does not see his time at Chelsea as a failure.

“My time at Chelsea wasn’t bad,” he continued. “Everybody talks about it and that it was really bad but I just decided I didn’t want to stay at the club under those circumstances, I just wanted to play football and that’s what I did.”

Manchester City are 3.75 to win back the Premier League title from Chelsea next season, with the Blues 2.38 to defend the crown they won in convincing style this year.
