Force India’s Sergio Perez believes he has enjoyed his “best season” in Formula 1 in 2015 and he is aiming to finish the campaign on a high at this week’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

The Mexican has already secured nine points more than he did in the whole of last season and he has became one of the grid’s form drivers since the summer break, as he has finished among the points in six of his last eight races.

The highlight of that impressive run was a podium finish at last month’s Russian Grand Prix and, with one race to go in the season, he looks set to finish ahead of team-mate Nico Hulkenberg in the standings for the very first time.

Perez finished 37 points behind the German during their first season together in 2014, but he now sits 16 points clear of his team-mate as he bids to secure his highest Drivers’ Championship finish since entering the sport in 2011.

The former Sauber driver believes he has enjoyed his best season in F1 to date and he is convinced the experience and confidence he has gained from the campaign will stand him in good stead in the future.

He said: “The most important thing is the level I managed to achieve in terms of driving, confidence and experience. I definitely had my best season so far.”

The 25-year-old believes his consistency has been particularly impressive throughout 2015 with eight top-eight finishes to his name, including his podium placing in Sochi.

He added: “The consistency that I’ve shown this year and the way I’ve driven throughout the year, that’s more important than the results or making more points than ever in a Formula 1 season.”

Perez will be hoping to secure another top-three finish at the Yas Marina Circuit on Sunday and he is available at 17.00 to secure the sixth podium placing of his career.
