Toto Wolff says one of Mercedes’ main goals during the summer break will be to get to the bottom of their recent poor starts.

The Silver Arrows have continued to dominate in practice and in qualifying, locking out the front row in Britain and Hungary.

However, on both occasions they lost their advantage off the line to first Williams and then Ferrari, while Lewis Hamilton was also slow off the mark in Austria.

Despite neither Hamilton nor Rosberg making the podium in Hungary, the Brit is currently 21 points clear of his colleague at the top of the standings, as the drivers enjoy some downtime during the summer break.

He also thrived in the second half of last season, winning six out of eight races to claim his second world championship.

The next few weeks gives Mercedes time to work on their issues and they will be confident of getting things right before August’s Belgian Grand Prix at Spa.

Wolff admits his team need to improve conceding that their recent sluggishness off the line is “not acceptable”.

“We got jumped by two Williams last time and jumped by two Ferraris this time and that triggered the whole mess,” he said. We need to get on top of the situation, it’s not acceptable.

“I think there are many different reasons, but if you look at it it’s not good.”

As things stand, Hamilton is currently the massive 1.20 favourite to win the Drivers’ Championship with Rosberg trailing behind at 5.50 and Sunday’s winner in Hungary Sebastian Vettel priced at 15.00.
