Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo is looking forward to returning to Abu Dhabi next week following his strong performance in the race last season.

The Australian missed out on a podium position at the Yas Marina Circuit 12 months ago, but his fourth place finish was a remarkable achievement as he had been forced to begin the race from the back of the grid after Red Bull were penalised.

The 26-year-old won three GP’s in total during 2014, but he believes his performance in the UAE was his best showing of the campaign.

He said: “It wasn’t a win but I nailed qualifying, I nailed the race, I nailed the whole thing. Pace, consistency, everything was awesome and it got me from the back of the grid to fourth, so yes, in terms of pure performance, it was my best race.”

The former Toro Rosso driver is hoping he can repeat the same standards at the circuit this year in the season finale, and he is looking forward to testing himself in Abu Dhabi.

He added: “You also have to contend with your tyres going off because the start of the lap is so fast – by the third sector you’re really having to manage your rubber. It’s … a challenge. Starting in the sun and ending in the dark is pretty cool.”

Ricciardo, who has only achieved one podium finish this season at the Hungarian Grand Prix, is available at 9.00 to secure a top three finish in the final race of the campaign.
