Sebastian Vettel is expecting a “big step” from Ferrari in 2016 and he expects to have a bigger say in team decisions.

The four-time world champion moved to the Scuderia from Red Bull at the end of the 2014 season and has enjoyed a strong first campaign with Ferrari.

Vettel has taken three race wins and featured on the podium nine other times, however Ferrari remain behind the dominant Mercedes and will look to step-up to challenge them more closely next season.

The German driver admits that a lot of decisions had been taken about the 2015 car before he arrived with the Italian outfit, but he expects “a lot more” input ahead of the 2016 campaign.

He claims that improvements on the engine are “ongoing” and there remains “plenty more to do” on the car as a whole, citing a need for more downforce as one key area for enhancement.

Vettel is quoted by Crash.net saying: “You don’t join the team until you join the team, so a lot of decisions had already been taken, so were taken when I was there already.

“[But] the season we have had so far has been phenomenal when you consider where the team was last year and the situation that we faced at the beginning with a lot of new people, a lot of change of position in the factory. Not that easy to digest for a team, but it has been great.

“Really strong getting the team together, so I am quite confident and hope that next year is a big step.”

Next up for Vettel and the rest of Formula One grid is the Brazil Grand Prix and Vettel is 9.00 to win the race. Lewis Hamilton is the favourite to win at 1.67 while his Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg is 3.00.
