Valtteri Bottas believes he can achieve a race victory with Williams during 2017 after agreeing to stay with the Grove-based outfit for next season.

The Finn has raced for the British team since the start of the 2013 campaign, achieving nine podium finishes to date, including two second-place showings at the British and German GP’s in 2014.

The 27-year-old has only secured one podium finish during 2016, a third place showing at the Canadian Grand Prix in June, but he is convinced he can challenge for a race victory during 2017, particularly with the sport’s new rules set to come into fruition at the start of the campaign.

“I think it is a great opportunity for a team to catch up the leading teams when there is a big rule change like next year,” Bottas told Sky Sports News HQ.

“Williams normally have been pretty good after a regulation change, they have been very quick in learning the new car and finding the latest tweaks and I believe in this team.

I believe we have deserved much more than we have achieved together and I think that is possible and why I am here.”

Bottas had been linked with a move to Renault before agreeing to stick with Williams for the 2017 season, and he believes he can continue to progress with the British team over the coming years.

“I still believe we can do better than we have done in the last three years. That is why I still believe in this team and why I want to stay,” he added.
