Mercedes Nico Rosberg has refuted claims he will adopt a cautious approach in his pursuit of a maiden world title, by insisting he will go all-out for victory at this weekend’s Mexican Grand Prix.

Rosberg is on the verge of securing world championship glory for the first time, as the German currently holds a 26-point advantage over team-mate and nearest rival Lewis Hamilton in the standings, with just three races to go in the season.

The 31-year-old did see his lead cut after finishing second to Hamilton at last week’s United States Grand Prix, but he can still secure overall glory even if he finishes directly behind his rival in the final three races of the campaign.

Rosberg insists he has no intentions of merely doing enough to secure his first world title, revealing that he intends to go all-out for victory in the final three races of the year, starting at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez this weekend.

“I came into Sunday [in Austin] with a good chance of winning but it didn’t work out. That’s the way it is, so I accept that and now it’s on to the next one in Mexico,” Rosberg said.

“My goal is to try and win there just as it has been at every race. Of course, to be in a Championship battle at the end of the year is awesome and I’m excited about that. But my approach is to keep it simple.”

Rosberg emerged victorious in Mexico City 12 months ago, a triumph that kick-started a run of seven straight race successes, and he will be hoping to achieve a similar result come Sunday.
