Mercedes officials feel Lewis Hamilton will spend more time on the podium over the next few months, despite claims of a confidence hit.

The Briton has enjoyed three third-place finishes so far in 2013, but has yet to break into the top two after seven Formula One races this season – unlike his team-mate Nico Rosberg, who took the chequered flag at the Monaco Grand Prix.

Hamilton is currently fourth in the driver standings but some 55 points behind leader Sebastian Vettel, with 12 races left.

The former McLaren driver suggested recently that he needed to regain the confidence of his team, but that is not a concern for Mercedes chief Toto Wolff.

Talking about the 28-year-old, Wolff said: “I don’t have that feeling we lack confidence in him. I think we will see great races from Lewis, I have no doubt about that.”

Hamilton will be hoping for a change of fortune following a two-week break, when the F1 circus heads to his home Grand Prix at Silverstone.

The Mercedes driver has a British Grand Prix victory under his belt, back in 2008, although he finished a disappointing eighth in 2012.
