Monisha Kaltenborn heaped praise on the efforts of both Sauber and Nico Hulkenberg after they worked tirelessly to finish fifth in the Italian Grand Prix.

Hulkenberg did brilliantly to qualify in third place on Saturday before showing his determination to succeed in the race on Sunday. The German driver lost ground early on in the race but then fought off Nico Rosberg as he battled to pick up as many points as possible.

His impressive display came at the right time with speculation linking him with a move away from the team, with Ferrari and Lotus both linked with his signature. Kaltenborn admitted after the race she was impressed with Hulkenberg’s performance and feel that the result can see them improve for the rest of the season.

“From my perspective the team did an excellent job and so did he. To be able to have this kind of a result, you have to have a car that allows you to deliver this kind of a result – and a driver who really makes it happen,” Kaltenborn told Sky Sports Online.

“Looking at the car, we’ve made a few steps which we’re continuously implementing so we can have the right understanding.

“That’s what we seem to have because all we’ve been doing for the last few races is showing we are, step by step, getting competitive. Then, of course, you need a driver who can use that potential and deliver to what the best result can be.”
