Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo has already got one eye on the 2016 Formula One campaign as his team continues to struggle this season.

The Milton Keynes-based outfit have been unable to keep up with frontrunners Mercedes, or even the chasing pack which includes the likes of Ferrari and Williams.

Ricciardo was the only non-Silver Arrows driver to take a chequered flag last season, as the Australian managed to finish top of the podium on three occasions.

However Red Bull have seemingly gone backwards as they continue to struggle to get the most out of their Renault engine.

Ricciardo believes it is imperative the team works hard with their current engine provider to get the most out of the power unit for next year’s campaign.

He was quoted by Sky Sports, saying: “This year I think we will make some small steps, but I don’t think we are going to find 50 per cent of the power we are lacking so it is more looking towards next year.

“The fight for the title is already out of reach so I think it is important that the team set up a championship target for next year.

“Without going into it too much, we at least have to see some evidence and proof that we are at least going to close the gap next year and Renault is willing to do that.

“We need the commitment from them to do that and I think Red Bull deserves it.”

Ricciardo will be hoping he can cause an upset on Sunday, by beating the likes of Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg to the chequered flag at the British Grand Prix.
