Danny Willett seeks Augusta inspiration

Danny Willett is hoping that a stroll down memory lane will help him rediscover the form which saw him win the Masters at Augusta last year.

The Englishman was a shock Green Jacket winner just under 12 months ago, overturning a three-shot deficit heading into the final round to claim a three-shot victory and along with it his first Major.

However, Willett has struggled somewhat to replicate the form which saw him emerge victorious at Augusta, having failed to win since then and fail to pick up a point on his Ryder Cup debut for Europe at Hazeltine.

And so he has gone back to the tape of his Major victory to try and gain some inspiration and some clues as to just how his swing looked at his best.

He told reporters: “We’re doing a little work on the golf swing right now and I was trying to see if I could pick up anything (from the tape).

“The one thing you do notice within that Sunday round is the flow of the golf swing and how it looked like I was really enjoying trying to hit the shots, taking on the challenge.”

Willett is in action this week at the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill, among a strong field headed by the likes of Rory McIlroy, Henrik Stenson and Jason Day.

Australian Day is the defending champion, having claimed a one-shot victory 12 months ago.

He is available at 15.00 to successfully defend his title, with McIlroy priced at 7.50 and Stenson a 9.50 shot.
