Davis Love III has backed Ryan Moore to justify his faith after naming him as the final member of the USA’s Ryder Cup team.

The 33-year-old lost out to Rory McIlroy in a play-off at Sunday’s Tour Championship and has been in good form in recent months, most notably winning August’s John Deere Classic.

He followed that up with top-10 finishes at both The Barclays and Deutsche Bank Championship and despite his disappointment at East Lake is now set to make his Ryder Cup debut at Hazeltine.

Love announced his decision to hand the Tacoma-native his final wildcard pick on Sunday evening and the 2004 U.S.

Amateur champion will join Brooks Koepka as America’s only two rookies in Minnesota. Despite him being green in Ryder Cup terms, Moore comes with plenty of experience, having won five times since joining the PGA Tour shortly after turning pro in 2005.

The USA will be looking to win the biennial event for the first time since 2008 and are currently the 1.53 favourites to achieve their goal, with the Tie 11.00 and holders Europe 2.88.

Captain Love believes the former UNLV star will be a huge asset to his team and has complimented him on his attributes both on and off the course.

“Ryan fits so well with what we have in place,” Love said. “He’s an easy-going, thoughtful guy, but don’t be fooled, Ryan’s a great match-play player with an incredible match-play record.

“He has guts and determination, and everyone saw that today. We are thrilled to have him with us.”
