South African Ernie Els says it is entirely plausible that Tiger Woods can rediscover his best form and add another major title to his collection.

When Woods clinched his 14th major title back at the 2008 US Open many believed it would only be a matter of time before he surpassed Jack Nicklaus’ record of 18.

However, the Californian has been plagued by numerous injuries over recent years while personal incidents have also played a part in his fall down the rankings.

The 79-time PGA Tour winner recently returned to action at the Hero World Challenge after nearly 15 months on the sidelines with a back problem.

It was topsy-turvy performance from the American, who finished as leading birdie-maker for the tournament but also made several bogeys along the way.

Attentions are now being turned towards the Masters at Augusta National in April and whether Woods, who has won the green jacket four times, can get back on the winning trail at the age of 41.

Els, who won his fourth major trophy at the 2012 Open whilst in his 40’s, believes it is possible the former world number one can get back to his best and challenge again.

“I am in my late 40s, and he is just getting into them,” he said.

“There have been a few cases where we have won majors in our 40s. It doesn’t happen that often but it does happen.

“If players like myself, Darren Clarke and Mark O’Meara won (majors) in our 40s, surely Tiger thinks he can do it, too. I am sure it’s on his agenda.”

Woods is priced at 23.00 to win the first major of the season while Jordan Spieth and Rory McIlroy are the 9.00 joint-favourites, just ahead of 9.50 chance Jason Day.
