Jason Day is keen to put his early-season struggles behind him at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am this week.

The world number three has endured a slow start to 2016 due to injury and illness, with his best showing of the year coming at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions when he finished in a tie for 10th position.

Since then the 28-year-old has only participated in one tournament, missing the cut at the recent Farmers Insurance Open, but he insists he is now fully fit and ready to kick-on during the rest of the campaign.

Day said: “The important thing is I’m healthier now and ready to move on. I’m ready to get into my season proper and build on everything we did last year.”

The Australian, who secured his first major title at last year’s US PGA Championship, has seen his position as world number three come under threat from in-form Rickie Fowler of late, whilst the two players ahead of him in the rankings, Jordan Spieth and Rory McIlroy, have extended their advantage further.

Day insists that he is determined to close the gap on the top two, starting with a positive showing at this week’s tournament in California.

He added: “You know those guys are going to continue to play well and it just drives me to do the same and be better, work harder, and be ready for the fight. I’m hoping for a good week this week to be back amongst it all.”

Day will be looking to secure his eighth victory on the PGA Tour at Pebble Beach and he is available at 9.50 to claim overall glory at the end of Sunday’s final round.
