Former world champion Naseem Hamed is adamant that fellow Sheffield fighter Kell Brook can overcome middleweight king Gennady Golovkin this weekend.

IBF welterweight champion Brook will step up two weight divisions when he faces GGG at The 02 Arena in London on Saturday night.

The majority of the press have already backed him to lose but the 30-year-old is confident he can beat the Kazakh.

Brook is expected to bring plenty of speed into the fight and he looked razor sharp during Tuesday’s open workout in London.

Hamed was ringside to watch him in action and the 42-year-old believes he has the skills needed to dethrone Golovkin.

He told Sky Sports News HQ: “This is a massive fight for Kell Brook and everyone seems to think that he will get knocked out, but I feel a little different about how this fight will go.

“I think Brook can box a very clever fight and use straight shots to get the victory.

He needs to watch Sugar Ray Leonard against Marvin Hagler because that fight is the key to him winning this one.

GGG is a great fighter but he hasn’t got the ability that Kell has – Brook is the far superior boxer.

“Kell can be the biggest superstar in boxing and the best British fighter ever if he can overcome Golovkin.

I’m willing him on to win so much and he just needs to realise that he has the ability and skill to get the job done.”

Golovkin is the heavy 1.15 favourite, with the draw priced at 29.00 and Brook available at odds of 5.50.
