Carl Froch has announced his retirement from boxing, claiming he has nothing left to prove after being crowned world champion four times.

‘The Cobra’ has not fought for over a year since knocking out George Groves to retain his WBA and IBF super-middleweight titles in front of a packed Wembley Stadium.

The victory over ‘St George’ was the 33rd of his 35 fight career, the Brit having taken on the best his weight division had to offer during his 13 years as a professional.

Froch was never stopped and his only defeats came via points against Mikkel Kessler in 2010 and Andre Ward in 2011.

The 38-year-old was able to gain revenge against Kessler in 2013, one of several famous wins the Brit recorded as he
claimed the scalps of Jermain Taylor, Lucian Bute and Jean Pascal.

Froch had said he would like to fight in Las Vegas before finally hanging up his gloves and had been set to face Mexican Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in ‘Sin City’ in March but was forced to pull out due to an elbow injury.

Talks with Bernard Hopkins and Kazakhstan’s Gennady Golovkin’s camps failed to produce any results and Froch has now decided to quit the ring, taking up a position in the media.

“It wasn’t an easy decision but it wasn’t as difficult as people might think,” he told BBC Radio 5 live.

“I turned 38 last week. My joints and bones are aching. If the desire was there, I could fight again but there’s nothing motivating me.

“I have nothing left to prove and my legacy speaks for itself. I’m incredibly proud of what I have achieved in boxing but now is the right moment to hang up my gloves.”
