Grasso vs. Esquibel Officially Set as Invicta 18 Returns to Kansas

It’s now official. Jodie Esquibel and Alexa Grasso fight is set as Invicta Fighting Championships returns next month. The two will clash in a title eliminator for strawweight division.

Invicta FC 18 announced last week about the event that will take place on Friday, July 29 in the historic Scottish Rite Temple, Kansas City, Mo.

The Mexican fighter Alexa Grasso remains undefeated with her 7-0 record and 4 of her victories have come via strikes. Came all the way from 3 straight wins, the 22-year old will test her pride facing Jodi Esquibel who holds a record of 5-1.

Considering the previous fights, Grasso was in here best appearance besting Mizuki Inoue, Alida Gray and Ashley Cummins.
On the other hand, the veteran fighter Jodie Esquibel is making a comeback after her long-laid off since 2014.

She then fought and made her first appearance in the Invicta cage in the 115-pound atomweight division. Esquibel came all the way from 2 winning streaks defeating Jinh Yu Frey and Nicdali Reivera-Calanoc.

The New Mexico-based fighter was also seen in the episode of “The Ultimate Fighter 23” as one of the strawweight contenders. However he failed in her first attempt when Ashley Yoder defeated her via split decision.

Part of Invicta 18 is the co-main event between Irene Aldana and Talia Santos. Aldana holds a record of 6-2 of which 4 of the victories are coming by way of knock out and the remaining were submissions while the latter remained undefeated at 13-0 with 9 coming by way of TKOs and 2 were submissions.

In the announcement seen Invicta’s official Facebook page, Shannon Knap President of Invicta stated that the winner of this bout will get a title shot against the current bantamweight champion Tonya Evinger who was remembered defeating Aldana last July 2015.

Other bouts include Cindy Dandois to face Jessamyn Duke. Dandois is freshly off from victory against Megan Anderson via submission while Duke has just recovered from her four-fight skid. On the other hand, Anderson will be facing the veteran Peggy Morgan in the featherweight bout while undefeated Agnieszka Neidzwiedz will defend her belt against Claudia Rey.

Returning her way back, the unbeaten Manjit Kolekar will be facing the strawweight veteran Lynn Alvarez who’s equipped with her martial arts skills for her first appearance in over 2 years.

Last but not the least is the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belter Sijara Eubanks facing Amberlynn Orr (11-1 record) who came from a loss against Katlyn Chookagian.
