England captain Alastair Cook has confirmed Keaton Jennings will open the batting with him in the fourth Test against India.

Durham’s Jennings comes in for Haseeb Hameed, who required surgery on a broken left hand suffered in the third Test.

The South African-born 24-year-old is set to make his debut in the fourth Test, which begins on Thursday, as England attempt to salvage something from the series.

The tourists trail 2-0 with two matches left to play, meaning anything other than an England win in Mumbai will see India claim a series victory.

Cook, 31, is confident Jennings can impress on his debut after some big performances for the England Lions of late. “He is going to play.

He is going to open the batting – another great opportunity for a guy,” he told Sky Sports.

“He’s in good touch, has spent some time in the middle for the Lions – making a hundred – and it is a very special day for him tomorrow.”

England may also again be without Stuart Broad due to the foot injury that saw him miss the third Test in Mohali, while left-arm spinner Liam Dawson has also been called into the squad due to injury to Zafar Ansari.

England are 4.75 to come out on top in Mumbai, while India can be backed at 1.44 and a draw is 5.50. Jennings is 5.50 to be the top England run scorer while Cook is on offer at 4.33.
