Andy Murray says he is easing his way into the conditions in Cincinnati after booking his place in the third round of the Western & Southern Open.

The Scot arrived in Ohio fresh from successfully defending his Olympic title and made a winning start on Wednesday with a comfortable 6-3 6-2 victory over Argentina’s Juan Monaco.

Big-serving South African Kevin Anderson is the top seed’s opponent in the next round and Murray will use the next 24 hours to try and further acclimatise to the different weather as he aims for his third title in Cincinnati.

He is also looking to adapt to the courts in America, where the surface is much quicker than the ones he played on in Rio de Janeiro.

The world number two admits he is working hard to try and get used to his surroundings as quickly as possible and already feels he is on the right track.

“It’s really humid here, quite different conditions to Rio,” said Murray. “The court here is pretty fast. Rio was a lot slower than this.

It took a bit of time to get into it, but I did all right. “I did two short sessions yesterday and two short sessions today.

I sometimes find that rather than doing one long session, if you’re going into new conditions, it’s a bit easier to do a couple of shorter sessions.

I feel like I get my timing a bit quicker that way.” Murray is 1.13 to beat Anderson, with the South African priced at 5.00.
