World number two Andy Murray has revealed playing for Great Britain in the 2017 Davis Cup is a possibility although he will need to fully evaluate his schedule.

Murray has been the driving force for team GB over the past four years and he played an integral part in securing the first Davis Cup title since 1936 last year.

The British number one won all of his 11 matches in the 2015 competition and the outstanding performances were recognised after he was named Sports Personality of the Year.

He featured regularly once again for the defending champions in 2016 as a narrow 3-2 defeat to Argentina in the semi-final ended the chances of a second straight triumph.

The 29-year-old’s remarkable fitness was highlighted throughout the year as he made the Australian and French Open finals before clinching a second Wimbledon crown at the All England Club.

Scotland’s star then defended his Olympic singles crown in Rio before adding the China Open and Shanghai Masters to his collection.

Despite the individual success, Murray’s commitment to the Davis Cup has never wavered and he has revealed playing in the 2017 competition is on the agenda.

“I still plan on playing Davis Cup next year,” he said. “But I’ll see how the end of this year goes and then decide on my schedule for the beginning of the year because I’m not set on exactly where I’m playing after Australia and before Dubai.”

Murray will be hoping for glory in the ATP World Tour Finals in London for the first time and he arrives in high spirits following the recent double in China.

World number one Novak Djokovic is the defending and five-time champion but his form has dipped from the usual high standards, leaving the door ajar for his rivals.
