Andy Murray has been seeded second in the men’s singles draw for the US Open, while fellow Brit Johanna Konta is a career-best 13th in the women’s.

Despite losing in Sunday’s final in Cincinnati, Murray has enjoyed a stellar few months, winning both Wimbledon and the Olympics.

Having won his maiden Grand Slam at Flushing Meadows in 2012, he will now be hoping to add extra gloss to his season by taking a second title in New York.

His seeding corresponds with his status as world number two, with the top ranked player Novak Djokovic being named as top seed.

Stan Wawrinka is third in the draw, while Rafael Nadal, who won the final Grand Slam of the year in both 2010 and 2013, is fourth.

In the women’s event, six-time champion and world number one Serena Williams is the top seed ahead of Angelique Kerber and Garbine Muguruza, who are second and third respectively.

Last year’s losing finalist Roberta Vinci is ranked seventh in the draw while the aforementioned Konta is a career-best 13th.

The 25-year-old reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open earlier this year and will be hoping to repeat the form she showed on the hard courts in Melbourne when she begins her campaign in the Big Apple.

Fellow Brit James Ward will not be present in the main draw having lost in qualifying, while Tara Moore and Laura Robson begin their campaigns on Wednesday.

The US Open gets underway on August 29, with Djokovic the 1.95 favourite for the men’s, while Williams is leading the betting at 2.25 in the women’s.

Murray is available at 3.00 and Konta is a longer shot at 51.00 to claim her maiden Grand Slam crown.
