Andy Murray vowed to keep improving after his 22-match winning streak was ended by Marin Cilic in the Cincinnati Masters final.

The Scot was finally downed 6-4 7-5 by Cilic, bringing to an end a winning run that dated all the way back to his French Open final loss to world number one Novak Djokovic in Paris.

During his hot streak, Murray added a second Wimbledon title to his CV as well as winning Olympic singles gold for the second time in his career.

While disappointed to lose to Cilic, Murray was eager to reflect on the positives of his recent form and he admits that his game was raised to new levels this summer.

“The last four or five months have been not even close to anything I’ve done before, they’ve been way, way better,” said Murray.

The 29-year-old world number two feels there are still areas of his game to be worked on.

“I’ve been in seven finals in a row and I won Wimbledon and the Olympics again but I still feel like there are some things I can improve on,” he told reporters.

Murray had defeated Wimbledon finalist Milos Raonic in the last four in Cincinnati but he was always facing a battle against Cilic.

The Croatian broke serve twice en route to winning the opening set and while things were tighter in the second, Murray was forced to save four break points at 5-5 before eventually dropping his service game.

Cilic made no mistake as he served out for the title.

Both men will turn their focus to the concluding Grand Slam of the year, the US Open, which gets underway in New York on August 29.
