Roger Federer has admitted he is now feeling very confident about his game after fighting back to beat Novak Djokovic to reach the final of the Dubai Open.
The Swiss star had to recover from a set down to see off the Serbian ace but showed his form of old to beat the defending champion 3-6 6-3 6-2.
He rolled back the years on Saturday morning to beat Djokovic for the first time in four attempts and Federer now has a 17-15 lead in head-to-head matches against the world number two.
The 32-year-old will now take on Tomas Berdych in the final and he is confident he is getting back to his best. The 17-time major winner worked hard in pre-season to improve his game after disappointing on the ATP Tour in 2013 and his hard work seems to be paying off.
Speaking after the win, he said: “There was a buzz out there tonight, and I was able to enjoy myself with that crowd.
“For some reason I had a tough start but the crowd kept pushing me on and I played well. It’s a quick court so I am always trying to be aggressive.
“It’s all happening. Beating Novak on the hard courts here in Dubai, it’s tough. This is a big step in the right direction for me. It gives me a lot of confidence.”
Berdych, 2.06 to win the first set in the final, continued his fine run and reached the final in Dubai for the second year in a row.
He started the 2014 season with a victory in Rotterdam, and he will also fancy his chances of victory after a 7-5 7-5 victory over Philipp Kohlschreiber.
