Gilles Simon is wary of the form that world number two Roger Federer is currently in ahead of their quarter-final meeting at Wimbledon on Wednesday.

The Frenchman faces a daunting task against the seven times champion at the All England club with the number two seed showing glimpses of the form that saw him win all but three of the championships played between 2003 and 2012.

Indeed the Swiss player has only dropped one set en route to the quarter-finals this year following victories over Damir Dzumhur, Sam Querry, Sam Groth and Roberto Bautista Agut.

The 17 times major winner was also victorious on the grass at the Halle Open prior to the start of Wimbledon and his opponent in the last eight is all too aware of the task that awaits him if he is to reach his first major semi-final.

He said: “I think he’s playing really good right now. I would just go there and try to play what I’m playing from the beginning of the tournament and from the beginning of the grass court season.”

The two players have never met on grass before, but it will be their seventh meeting on the ATP Tour with Federer having won the last five matches between the pair.

Their most recent meeting was at last year’s Shanghai Masters with the Swiss player winning in straight sets, but Simon is hopeful of springing an upset at SW19.

He continued: “We often had some close matches with Roger. Still he destroy me once, so I’m ready that it can be sometimes difficult to face him, but one more time I just feel good and I just want to play it.”

Federer is the favourite to progress to another Wimbledon semi-final and is on offer at 1.10 whilst his 12th seeded opponent is on offer at 6.50 to spring a surprise.
