Johanna Konta admits she is excited about her chances after making her first WTA final at the Bank of the West Open.

The British number one demonstrated her class in beating world number 12 Dominika Cibulkova 6-4 6-2 in the last four on Saturday and will now meet Venus Williams in Sunday’s final.

Top seed Williams came through a tricky semi-final encounter against fellow American Alison Riske, eventually triumphing 6-1 7-6 (7-2).

Konta fired seven aces and dropped just six points on serve against Cibulkova, blasting past the Slovakian in just an hour and 14 minutes.

Reaching her first WTA final marks another breakthrough for the 25-year-old who has enjoyed a strong year to date, most notably making it through to the semi-finals of the Australian Open.

The Sydney-born star has again impressed on hard courts this week and is clearly flying on the concrete in Stanford.

It all bodes well for the upcoming US Open, where she is on offer at 51.00 to taste success, but the Sydney-born star is taking nothing for granted.

Konta admitted she was delighted with the focus she showed in making her maiden WTA final and is looking forward to taking to the court again on Sunday.

She said: “I was trying to focus just on the circumstances and not anything that was going on around me.

I enjoyed being out here, playing in front of a great crowd and am excited to come back tomorrow.”

Konta is currently the marginal 1.83 favourite to claim her maiden WTA title on Sunday, with Williams priced at 1.85.
