World number 12 Marin Cilic has confirmed he has split with coach Goran Ivanisevic.

The Croatian duo first began working together in September 2013 and they were celebrating a Grand Slam triumph less than a year later, as Cilic secured US Open glory in 2014, defeating Kei Nishikori in the final.

The 27-year-old went on to reach the semi-finals at Flushing Meadows 12 months later and he has also reached the last eight at Wimbledon in each of the last three years.

The former world number eight was beaten by Roger Federer in the quarter-finals at SW19 this year, despite winning the first two sets against the 17-time major champion, and that defeat turned out to be his last match with Ivanisevic in his corner.

Cilic confirmed the news of his split from the former Wimbledon champion on his official website, but he had nothing but positive things to say about his compatriot.

He wrote: “I wanted to share this news with you. Unfortunately, I am no longer working with my coach Goran Ivanisevic.

We started to work together in September 2013 and we had a lot of success during that period, especially winning the US Open in 2014.”

“It was a huge privilege to work with Goran, I enjoyed our work all this time and Goran helped me to reach many goals.

Unfortunately, the road we were sharing on this journey is separating, and I wish only the best for Goran in the future.”

Cilic will be hoping to secure his second major title at this year’s US Open, which is due to get underway in New York on August 29.
