Roger Federer is hopeful he can secure a second successive victory over Novak Djokovic when the two players go head to head in the last match of this year’s ATP World Tour Finals on Sunday.

The Swiss ace has already beaten the world number one this week when he secured an impressive straight sets victory in the group stage of the competition.

That triumph ended a 23 match unbeaten run for Djokovic and it was also just his sixth defeat of 2015, although half of those losses have come at the hands of the 17-time major winner.

Federer believes he can take confidence from his triumph on Tuesday, but he does not think the success will have a great bearing on Sunday’s match.

He said: “For me it’s an advantage because I guess it gives me a bit of confidence. For him it’s an advantage because he gets a second chance, and he’s in another final. He’s played some great tennis since we’ve played.”

The 34-year-old, who is chasing his seventh triumph at the end of season event, is convinced the Serbian is still the favourite to defend the title he won 12 months ago, as he has been the player to beat throughout the season.

He added: “So, yeah, I still believe his confidence is slightly higher than mine with the amount of success he’s had this year.”

The duo should be relatively fresh for the final as they both enjoyed straight set victories in the last four, with Federer disposing of compatriot Stan Wawrinka and Djokovic seeing off old rival Rafael Nadal.

It is the defending champion who will start the match as the favourite at 1.40, whilst Federer is available at 2.80 to repeat his heroics of the group stage.
