Simona Halep ended the year as the world number two and the Romanian hopes she can improve further over the course of 2015.

The 24-year-old picked up the Dubai Tennis Championship and Indian Wells titles, while she also reached the finals of the Rogers Cup and the Cincinnati Masters.

Halep also managed to reach the last eight at the Australian Open and US Open semi-finals, but struggled in the other Grand Slams as she failed to get past the second round in either the French Open or Wimbledon, where she fell at the first hurdle.

The Romanian was satisfied with 2015 but she hopes she can improve further in 2016 as she targets a maiden major crown.

“Indian Wells of course – it was my biggest title,” Halep told wtatennis.com. “Also I played really well in the summer – I did quarter-finals and semi-finals for the first time at the US Open, and I played two finals before that, so even though I lost early at the French Open and Wimbledon, I’m happy with my season.

“I was feeling more relaxed and more confident, and I really started to enjoy every match on the court. Last year was a big year for me, but I think this year was better than last year.”

Halep is 9.00 to win the Australian Open at the start of 2016.

Victoria Azarenka is 7.50, while WTA Finals champion Agnieszka Radwanska is priced at 26.00.
