Serena Williams insists she does not feel any extra pressure to win the US Open following her victory at Wimbledon on Saturday.

The American defeated Spain’s Garbine Muguruza in straight sets to claim her sixth SW19 crown and now holds all four Grand Slam titles following her earlier wins in Australia and France, as well as her Flushing Meadows triumph last September.

After completing the so-called ‘Serena Slam’, the 33-year-old is on course to become only one of a few players in the history of the sport to have won all four majors in a calendar year.

Having triumphed at the last three US Opens, Williams will head to Flushing Meadows as the huge favourite but insists she does not feel any pressure to win in New York and is only planning on giving it her all.

“I feel like if I can do the ‘Serena Slam’, I will be OK heading into the Grand Slam,” she told the BBC. “Like I always say, there’s 127 other people that don’t want to see me win. Nothing personal, they just want to win.

“This gives me confidence that if I had this draw, I can do it again.
I’ll just do the best I can. I really don’t feel like I have anything to lose. I’ve kind of solidified my place at number one. My goal is always to end the year at number one.”

Williams currently leads the betting for September’s tournament at 2.20, with former world number one Victoria Azarenka the second favourite at 6.00 and her great rival Maria Sharapova close behind at 7.50.
