Clarence Seedorf is ‘Mr Champions League’ and now the AC Milan boss, who is the only player to have won the competition with three different clubs, is getting his players set for a showdown with high-flyers Atletico Madrid.

The former Netherlands international knows what it takes to go all the way in this competition and he will have played in many Champions League last-16 encounters.

Seedorf, who is only in the fledgling stages of the managerial career at the San Siro, will need to tap into all that experience if his side are going to come out on top against Atletico over two legs.

The 37-year-old’s side, who are 3.48 to win on home soil on Wednesday night against the La Liga outfit, currently find themselves in ninth place in Serie A but have been able to find strong performances in Europe.

Seedorf has admitted his side will have to be at their best to get a positive result before the leg in the Spanish capital but the former midfielder believes his player have a great chance to continue the club’s strong reputation in the competition.

He said: “It will be another great opportunity to take another step forward in the competition.

“Atletico are well organised, strong and have great forwards.

“But I know we will raise our game for the Champions League and I’m looking forward to getting re acquainted with the San Siro that I got to know so well in this competition.”
